Healthy Wild Red Alaskan Salmon in Oriental Sauce and Vegetables

I love salmon, but it must be wild salmon, and not farmed,as this can be full of unhealthy ingredients that are not good for prostate health or general health, due to the way they are fed and packed closely together etc. This is applicable to all farmed fish and I avoid them like the plague, which I feel is an apt description.

Wild Red Salmon And Vegetables
This recipe is low fat and dairy free with tomato and healthy vegetables.I use extra virgin olive oil with crushed garlic to toss the potatoes in. The salmon is pan fried in lemon juice, soy sauce, fresh green ginger, coriander, star anise,to give a delicious oriental flavour, this also avoids actually frying the fish directly in the oil, said to be not healthy for cancer,Avoid deep fried foods !

Wild Red Salmon in an Oriental Sauce -adjust ingredient amounts to requirements

1) Wild red salmon portions for number of servings

2) New potatoes, ideally organic and the rest of veg.also

3) cauliflower florets

4) carrots

6) savoy cabbage

7) tomato

8) olive oil, light for cooking)

9) extra virgin olive oil

10) salt and pepper to taste

11) crushed garlic cloves

12) dark soy sauce

13) fresh lemon juice

14) grated fresh ginger

15) chopped fresh coriander or basil

16) 1 star

c) put potatoes sliced lengthwise into a pan of water and bring to the boil, season with salt if required

e) while veg is cooking, in a solid frying pan,put a little light olive oil, a tsp fresh lemon juice, tsp soy sauce, tsp chopped ginger, star anise, bring to a medium heat and add salmon skin down, cook till salmon changes colour about 5 minutes, when it looks cooked through, turn over and remove from heat to allow flesh side to finish gently cooking about 1-2 minutes.

f) remove salmon to a hot plate and keep warm, add coriander or basil to pan and allow to wilt over a low heat, spoon over salmon.

g) heat about 1-2 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil in a pan over a low heat add garlic and fry for about 1 minute taking care not to burn garlic or it will taste bitter, toss new potatoes in oil and garlic.

Note:- for a sticky sauce add just a little sugar to pan with soy, ginger ---mix at start of cooking, use more of the ingredients for sauce as required.

My name's Dave and I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in September 2007,with a PSA count of 107 and a Gleason score of 4+5 =9,plus almost complete renal failure.I am a great believer in you are what you eat and that diet with prostate cancer is extremely important.I try to eat the right foods recommended by many sources I have researched.

As an ex aircraft engineer at one time,I liken the body to an engine,if you repair it after it has gone wrong then fill it with the wrong fuel,it will not run well if at all and will be back continuously for repair and adjustments,it will eventually fail and die.If you just change the filter on an oil change and not treat the system eg. drain and flush and re fill with fresh oil, your filter will soon clog and be ineffective. Why should our  bodies be any different to an engine?

We go into hospital for treatment and with western medicine doctors treat the ailment eg.the oil filter and not the system eg, the body, the symptoms that caused the ailment in the first place.Of course the ailment like the oil filter has to be treated but the symptoms get ignored.
The hospital food makes next to no help in the progress back to health, and possibly even delays it,being often full of fat, sugar over cooked destroying vitamins, etc. etc.,eg. like the engine being filled with the wrong fuel !

My personal diet from childhood consisted of 3 or 4 rashers of bacon,2 fried eggs, white bread thickly spread with butter for breakfast nearly every morning all my life till diagnosis !
My favourite drink was whole fat milk and I would drink at least a pint from the fridge at a time, plus that consumed in tea, coffee and cereals, instant whip a whole bowl full to myself,I loved it.I ate cheese with everything, pasta,on toast, sandwiches etc.Red meat most days and steaks were seldom under 10 ounces, pork and lamb chops were never less than 2 per serving. This is just a sample of my bad diet !

When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007 I realised that I had symptoms that I ignored for a very long time possibly years,( not all cases of prostate cancer show any symptoms) this is why it is vital to ask your GP for a PSA test on a regular basis !! I was racing for a pee day and night often not making it in time,I put it down to the beer ! like all men burying their heads !! I ended up carrying a bottle in the car.I got to a stage before going to the doctor, forced by my girlfriend, where I was unable to clean my teeth without gagging,a smell and taste of ammonia in my mouth, teeth coming loose, unable to eat solid food and started making it into a puree, unable to start weeing for a long time. The final straw was being sick constantly at a friend's barbecue.Next day I was at the Dr's surgery, two days later in hospital.See my personal cancer blog for my journey at--My Prostate Treatment Progress   http://myprostatecancer.blogspot.com

The result of the above is that I was given an operation called TURPS which is a reaming out of the passage to the bladder via the penis to improve urine flow.I have been on hormone therapy treatment since, which controls my testosterone which apparently feeds prostate cancer,my PSA has been up and down from 11 to 24 since.

Bringing us back to diet and prostate cancer my belief is that my pre cancer diet probably contributed a long way to me contracting cancer, even if there is still no positive reason as to why some men and not others have it,which leads us all to speculate with our own theories.
With my belief that diet may have played a large part in my cancer,I reversed my diet from what I used to eat to the one I try to stick to at present. It appears to effect the rise and fall of my PSA count when I stray back on to bad habits.Although many things can effect a rise in PSA such as weight lifting, low fluid intake ,sex just before a check etc.

This blog is a log of my recipes that I personally eat that I believe can help and certainly will do me no harm even should it not. I gave up dairy food, sugar,(cancer's best friend) red meat, except an occasional treat, smoked food, charred meat, deep fried food, white bread, pasta, high unrefined carbs.(I occasionally eat these as I love them) the idea is eat them very occasionally as a treat)celery, most fats and cooking oils.My recipes give alternatives to using these ingredients without losing texture and taste

Disclaimer:- this blog is not intended to replace medical treatment and advice,it is my own personal belief and that of many others that diet with prostate cancer can only help fight this dreadful disease.

GET A PSA CHECK TODAY !!!  NOT TOMORROW !! AS TOMORROW NEVER COMES!!

PS if you don't and leave it too late you may never 'cum again' either!!!

18) 1 tsp mustard seeds
19) 1 tsp turmeric powder
20) 1 tsp cayenne pepper
21) 1 tsp chili powder
22) 1 tsp fenugreek  powder
23) 1 tsp paprika,1 tsp coriander powder
24) 1 star anise
25) 2 tbs malt vinegar
26) 1 tbs spicy mango chutney,I use Geeta's hot chili one
27) sea salt to taste
38) olive oil (light type suitable for cooking with) or coconut oil, about 3 tbs
39) handful of washed fresh coriander, chopped

Method

a) heat oil in a large pan to medium heat, add dry whole spices and seeds, cook for 1 minute to release aroma
b) add 1/2 of sliced onions, stir fry till soft and golden
c) in a blender puree,rest of onions,garlic,ginger,carrot,cabbage,malt vinegar,1/2 of sweet pepper,2 tbs water,till smooth
d) add to onions and spices in pan,add tomato puree, and stir fry over medium heat 3 minutes
e) add rest of spices and stir fry 2 minutes

g) add salt to taste
h) add chicken thighs
i) bring sauce to the boil, then turn down to low simmer
j) add mango chutney
k) add coconut cream
l) stir sauce, cover and simmer 1 hour, checking and stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, add rest of red pepper, finely sliced after 1/2 hour of cooking

Sauce should separate from oil when cooked, stir in chopped coriander, and 1 heaped tsp of garam masala.

Serve with brown rice or a good rice substitute is Quinoa which has many healthy ingredients.

Note:- I try to avoid white breads, white rice, carbs turn to sugar in the body and sugar is cancer's best friend !! I get my carbs from vegetables as much as possible but admit I do have the odd slice of white bread etc,as a treat as I love and miss it !
